6 km from the Waiotapu Hotel are the Waikite Hot Pools. This is one of New Zealand's best thermal pool complexes. There is a range of outdoor hot pools plus private pools available for hire.

RAINBOW MOUNTAIN
Just 3 km from Waiotapu on State Highway 5 is a fine walking track through native forest to the summit of Rainbow Mountain. On the way, you will pass spectacular hot cliffs, and there is a magnificent panoramic view from the summit. Allow about 3 hours for the return trip.

WAI-O-TAPU WONDERLAND
Only 2 km from Waiotapu, this is one of the country's most
spectacular and colourful thermal areas.
